Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Here are some of the frequently asked questions (FAQ) about learning Thai but if you cannot find the answer you are looking for,
please do not hesitate to contact us:

1. What language are the courses taught in?

Our Thai classes are taught in English with the course books written in Thai and English with phonetic examples. Our English classes are conducted fully in English although all of our English teachers have a basic understanding of many languages. Our Italian classes are conducted in both Italian and English.

2. What qualification do the teachers have?

All teachers at Mind Your Language have either many years of experience in teaching Thai to foreigners or have a university degree in teaching languages to foreigners.

3. How many times a week do I need to study?

Our group classes run for 2 hours per day and either 1 or 2 days per week. All English and Thai classes start at either 9 am, 11 am, or 2 pm. Private tuition can be arranged for any day but still within these time slots.  Ed visa students must study in school, twice a week.

4. Will I need to do homework?

There is no mandatory homework assigned but we encourage students to use what they have learned in the classroom in their everyday activities.

5. What happens if I need to cancel or miss a lesson?

We require 24-hour notice if you need to cancel a private lesson so that we can reschedule. A no-show will result in the lesson being marked as missed and deducted from your course. Missed group classes cannot be rescheduled

6. What happens if I need to cancel my course?

If you need to cancel your course we need at least 7 days notice prior to the start of your course to apply your deposit to a future course. A future course must be scheduled within 60 days of the start of your cancelled course.

7. How far in advance do I need to book?

You can book as far ahead as you like. Please email us with your arrival dates and we will advise you of the next course start dates.

8. Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes, we prefer you to pay a 50% deposit and to complete an enrollment form at the time of booking. Full payment is due on day one of the course. Deposits are valid for 60 days – courses must be confirmed & full payment received within this period. Students requiring the ED visa must pay 50% on completion of documents with the remaining 50% payable on collection of visa papers before going to the Embassy/Consulate of your choice.

9. Can I pay online?

All fees can be paid by cash in the schools, by Wise, or by direct transfer to our bank account, details of which will be supplied if/when necessary.

10. Do I need to do any preparation for the course?

It is a good idea to buy the Thai – English dictionary app and to familiarise yourself with the vocabulary. 

11. What do I need to bring on the first day?

Please bring along a pen and notebook. For registration please bring a photocopy of your passport & visa and 2 passport photos.  We can take a copy of your passport at the school if you don’t have access to a photocopier.

12. Is there internet access at the school?

Yes, we provide free Wi-Fi access.

13. Where can I find accommodation and how much does it cost to stay on Samui?

We are happy to recommend websites etc. to assist you in finding accommodation on Samui. There are many areas to choose from that suit every budget.

14. Do you offer any discounts or payment plans

The short answer is “yes”.  Various payment plans and discounts may be available for ALL students, please ask our staff for details when making your reservations.
